Reading, Writing, Public Speaking, Study Skills and Stress Reduction

My specialty is working with students who struggle with organization, reading comprehension, and writing. I hold a Master's in Reading and Language and am certified in reading and LD in NH and Mass. I recently retired but still have time and TLC for your student. I like to use stress reduction techniques, memory tricks and lots of active learning. After 25 years of teaching there is a lot of depth and variety to my repertoire. Generally, I work with tweens, teens and adults....

Aspergers

Aspergers students often suffer from poor social skills, weak organization and motivation. They often read well but struggle when empathy is required to understand the characters. If motivation, emotions and social cues are spelled out... they can cope. This is a non - verbal learning disability which means body language, tone of voice, sarcasm and anything that requires an interpretation of emotions is often challenging. Remediation for this learning disability requires explicit teaching of appropriate social responses such as: "What three things should you not say in a restaurant?" "How do you politely refuse an invitation to a party?". I have certification in Moderate special needs in both Mass and NH. I also have an MA as a Reading Specialist.

Lee has been wonderful! She is a creative teacher who helps draw the best out of our ADD 5th grader. She is teaching him strategies for writing that are helping him become much more comfortable with the process. Her patience and desire to find the best way to work with our son have been a godsend. And she was even willing to help when he was having a meltdown about needing a tutor. She stepped right in to help him understand that there's no shame associated with getting help. He went from hysterical to happy and engaged in about 15 minutes with Lee's help. He looks forward to the days she comes and I love that I hear the two of them chatting and laughing, all while he is learning!

Lee is wonderful! She keeps my daughters interest. My daughter is eager for each lesson and the most amazing part she wants to do her homework assignments. Thank you Lee for your help. 9/6/12 Lee continues to hold my daughters interest and offer ideas for working through school challenges. Her experience is invaluable.

Lee is excellent at working with my daughter who partly has a Non-verbal Learning Disorder. Currently, Lee is helping her with the writing process and reading comprehension, and has really made a noticeable improvement to my daughter's confidence in these areas. Lee uses a blend of teaching techniques that are both classic and creative that my daughter can respond to. She is also a pleasure to work with.
